Program, Activities, & Resources

-

What We Do

The Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation develops programs and activities that support youth and adults in understanding the message of hope and peace Mattie shared, and in moving from “attitude to action” in choosing peace for oneself and one’s world.

-

-

Pathways to Peace

Pathways to Peace is our main program. All of the activities, events, materials, and categorical programs and resources we create are a part of our Pathways to Peace Program – which offers information and inspiration for exploring key elements of Mattie’s message of hope and peace. Examples of these key elements include Heartsongs, purpose, hope, choice, service, communication, kindness, anti-bullying, resilience, coping, motivation, spirituality, education, and more.

-

There are three levels in our Pathways to Peace program. They are summarized here, with more information about each level lower on this page:

=

    • Mattie’s Peace Network — a secure, free registry — participants simply receive occasional e-Peace Updates so they can reflect on our Foundation mission and activities.

=

    • Mattie’s Peace Club — with a range of categories for all ages (from free to a small fee) — members receive inspirational and informational messages several times a year, and are encouraged to respond through participation.

=

    • Peace Certification by Mattie’s Foundation – independent or supported activities for all people of all ages and groups of all sizes, (from free to a fee options) — individuals, families, groups, and communities choose to not only reflect and respond to Mattie’s message of peace, but they are also celebrated and supported as they reach out with that message through some type of activity, lesson, or project.

 -

Detailed information on each program level is below…

-

========================

-

Mattie’s Peace Network

Mattie’s Peace Network is a free registry for individuals and organizations that want to receive e-mail information (called e-Peace Upates) about the work of Mattie’s Foundation. This level of involvement is consistent with what Mattie would call the first choice for peace – a peace seeker – which involves “reflecting on peace” so that peace can become a chosen attitude.

-

Like all of our databases, our MPN registry is secure and never shared with other organizations. There is no action that MPN members need to take, except to consider peace, and the information we send out every few months in our brief messages.

-

Mattie’s Peace Club

Mattie’s Peace Club is consistent with what Mattie would call the second choice for peace – a peace maker – which involves “responding to peace” and beginning to move from “attitude to action” so that peace can become a developed habit. Mattie’s Peace Club offers several levels of involvement for youth and adults:

Peace Club Kids (birth through 12 years) register for free and receive seasonal e-messages from “Mama Peace” with suggested conversation and activity tips for responding to the featured element of Mattie’s message. The artwork, photos, peace thoughts, poetry, and other responses sent in by PCK members and their families are posted on our website. Families of our Peace Club Kids are encouraged to support their children in exploring the peace messages they receive, and in participating in any suggested discussions or activities.

-

-

  • Peace Club Tweens is a free extension of the Peace Club Kids program for older youth (ages 9-12  years) who choose to respond to Mattie’s message by creating or participating in a peace activity (which earns them Peace Activity Certificates). Our Tweens are encourage to receive support from others (parents and grandparents, teachers and mentors), as they learn to create and follow through on a peace activity.
-
-
-

  • Peace Club Teens (ages 13-19 years) usually make a one-time $18 donation for participation, though no teen is ever turned down if the fee is a challenge — we even have a Peace Teen Sponsorship category in our Peace Shop. PCT members also receive Messages from Mama Peace, and our teens are encouraged to participate in our peace ambassador journey (virtual and guided) through Mattie’s Three Choices for Peace. The peace projects they create or participate in can earn them both Community Service Hours and a Teen Peace Ambassador Certificate from Mattie’s Foundation. Peace Club Teens can receive support and assistance in the development and implementation of their peace activity or project.

-

-

  • Peace Club General Members (adults) donate $25 to Mattie’s Foundation to support our mission and activities. Members receive e-Peace Updates and discounts on select materials in our Peace Shop. Each year they may renew their commitment and support and receive a new MPC Certificate. Their support is 100 percent tax deductible. Choosing to become a Peace Club General Member provides much needed financial support for Mattie’s Foundation, including support for the work that goes into our free Peace Club youth and Seasonal Outreach activities.

-

-

Peace Club VIPs ($100) and Messengers ($500) are similar to General members, except for their choice to be “Very Involved Peacemakers” or “Messengers” who provide additional financial support and who sponsor youth groups (and others) in participating in our Peace Certification Program. They receive e-Peace Updates and VIP discounts on select materials in our Peace Shop, and their support is 100 percent tax deductible. Choosing to become a Peace Club VIP Member provides much needed financial support for Mattie’s Foundation, including support for the work that goes into our free Peace Club youth and Seasonal Outreach activities.

Peace Certification Program

Peace Certification by the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation is consistent with what Mattie would call the third (and ultimate) choice for peace – a peace bringer – which involves “reaching out with peace” and bringing peace in attitude and action to others, so that peace can become a reality.  Peace Certification makes a statement about your choices as a parent or family, an educator or school, a politician or community leader, a healthcare or childcare provider, a member of the clergy or a business organization – as any person or group who wants to be an agent of lasting and good change for our world.

PAID or SPONSORED LEVELS  of Certification — >
Mattie’s Foundation supports each individual, family, or group seeking Peace Certification as they reflect and respond to some element of Mattie’s message, and then bring that message to another person or community through a developed Peace Activity or Lesson Plan (which can be as small as family meal or one-time lesson plan, or as big as a annual peace event or a school peace unit). Fees for Peace Certification and the materials and services participants receive range from $50 to $500 depending on the category, and are tax deductible. Paying or sponsored participants receive our 24-page Peace Tips Guide, support from Mattie’s Foundation as they journey through Mattie’s “Three Choices for Peace,” a certificate, featured recognition on Mattie’s website, and other benefits.

-

FREE Peace Activity Certificate COMPONENT —>
We have added a Peace Activity Certificate to our Peace Certification journey. There is no cost to the participant(s) for this recognition. It is much like the Peace Certification journey in that recipients participate in some type of lesson plan or peace activity rooted in Mattie’s peace message (a quote, a poem, or a book). This free level encourages people to move from attitude to action with peace and to have their activity recognized on our website, and also earn a certificate for their peace activity. Families, teachers, and businesses can even retroactively share a lesson plan or activity completed anytime during the previous 12 months. However, as it is free, participants do not receive our Peace Tips Guide or personalized support through Mattie’s peace choices. Instead, they can download our  brief Peace Activity Certificate Information Tool (will be posted SOON) which offers suggestions, including a template for planning and sharing about the activity/lesson plan.

=

Regardless of category (paying/sponsored or free), we invite individuals, families, teachers, schools, businesses, clubs, groups, communities, cities,  and more to share their personal “reflect, respond, and reach out with peace” activity, lesson plan, or project with us:

-

    • Reflect — Your activity, lesson plan, or project can be rooted in any quote, poem, or book by Mattie
      • Paying/Sponsored participants receive our 24-page Peace Tips Guide to support their peace journey.
      • Free certificate participants may download our Peace Activity Certificate Information Tool with guidelines/suggestions.
    • Respond– Your activity can take any creative, recreational, educational, or informational shape for any personal/family activity, class/school subject, or community event.
      • Paying/Sponsored participants receive feedback and support from Mattie’s Foundation as they move through through this part of the journey.
      • Free certificate participants may modify the Peace Activity Information Tool as needed to fit with their activity.
    • Reach Out – Your activity or lesson plan is carried out, impacting at least one other person, family, or classroom (or countless others around the world). You share information with us (see below) about your journey or activity. We encourage you to include photos, news items, social media links, sample materials, and more that will help us as we celebrate your peace efforts on our website.
      • Paying/Sponsored participants share their journey using the Peace Plan Guide we send, which is a recommended template for organizing and reporting on their activity. We post the Peace Plan on our Peace Certified People & Communities webpage, send the participant(s) a certification certificate, and create a News item to celebrate the journey.
      • Free certificate participant share information about their activity or lesson plan using the Peace Activity Information Tool. We post the activity or lesson plan on our Teacher Tips & Lesson Plans (and/or) Peace Tips & Poetry Links webpage(s), and send the participant(s) an activity certificate.

=

Individuals and groups can earn more than one certificate,
as they repeat, refine, or create new activities.

Why Your Participation Matters

Participating in any level of our peace programs – from the free Peace Network to full Peace Certification – matters, because peace matters. Personal peace and world peace are both possible, if we understand how peace begins from within each of us, and how peace grows from each of us. Our peace programs support you and your family and communities in reflecting on peace, in responding to peace, and in reaching out with peace, which is a gift for our children, and for our future.
