Mattie’s Peace Tree 2017
A Global Celebration of Peace!

  • We have moved our Peace Tree activity from winter to spring, to coincide with National Poetry Month.
  • The 2017 activity begins April 1.
  • All submissions received by April 30
will be posted on the global Peace Tree,
which will be shared during May.
  • We are trying something new this year — to make it easier for folks to participate.
  • Our Facebook activity page will launch on during late March.
  • Post your Peace Tree ornament to the page by April 30, and you will be entered to win great prizes! (Random drawings).
  • MORE DETAILS AND INFORMATION (including “Teacher Tips”) to be posted early in 2017.

I am peace… together, we are peace!
– Mattie J.T. Stepanek

What:

  • A free, fun, annual global activity — for peace.
  • Great participation prizes (random drawings).

Who:

  • EVERYONE!
  • Individuals and families, schools and businesses, places of worship and community organizations.
  • People of all ages, abilities, nationalities, religions — in all spaces of the world.
  • Across the years, thousands of children and adults have participated, representing dozens of countries around the world!

=

Why:

  • Many people, many places, one purpose — PEACE!
  • Whether a participant works alone or with a group, this activity brings people from around the world together — as they collectively contribute to Mattie’s Peace Tree — which will celebrate all the ornaments created and submitted from each or our global neighbors and groups.

How:

  1. Reflect on the theme —
     – “I am peace… together, we are peace!”
    –
Consider what this theme means to you as a person, family, or group.
  2. Respond to the theme —
    – Share your hand(s) in a creative way that expresses the theme.
    – Write on your hand, trace your hand, draw/illustrate your hand,
create a group image with handprints… be creative!
  3. Reach out with the theme —
    – Post a photo of your hand(s), art, or project to our Facebook page
(info and Facebook link coming soon).
    – We will gather all the images together and create a single “Peace Tree.”
    – We will post the global Peace Tree to Mattie’s website.
    – All participants will receive a Peace Activity Certificate.
