Mattie’s Peace Tree 2017
A Global Celebration of Peace!

- We have moved our Peace Tree activity from winter to spring, to coincide with National Poetry Month.
- The 2017 activity begins April 1.
- All submissions received by April 30
will be posted on the global Peace Tree,
which will be shared during May. - We are trying something new this year — to make it easier for folks to participate.
- Our Facebook activity page will launch on during late March.
- Post your Peace Tree ornament to the page by April 30, and you will be entered to win great prizes! (Random drawings).

I am peace… together, we are peace!

What:
- A free, fun, annual global activity — for peace.
- Great participation prizes (random drawings).

Who:
- EVERYONE!
- Individuals and families, schools and businesses, places of worship and community organizations.
- People of all ages, abilities, nationalities, religions — in all spaces of the world.
- Across the years, thousands of children and adults have participated, representing dozens of countries around the world!

Why:
- Many people, many places, one purpose — PEACE!
- Whether a participant works alone or with a group, this activity brings people from around the world together — as they collectively contribute to Mattie’s Peace Tree — which will celebrate all the ornaments created and submitted from each or our global neighbors and groups.

How:
- Reflect on the theme —
– “I am peace… together, we are peace!”
– Consider what this theme means to you as a person, family, or group. - Respond to the theme —
– Share your hand(s) in a creative way that expresses the theme.
– Write on your hand, trace your hand, draw/illustrate your hand,
— create a group image with handprints… be creative! - Reach out with the theme —
– Post a photo of your hand(s), art, or project to our Facebook page
– (info and Facebook link coming soon).
– We will gather all the images together and create a single “Peace Tree.”
– We will post the global Peace Tree to Mattie’s website.
– All participants will receive a Peace Activity Certificate.

Prizes:
- All participants who share an image on our Facebook page will be entered to win a prize.
- Participants who “share” or “tweet” the activity will receive additional entries for the prizes.
- Prizes will be selected by random drawing.
- Grand prize — “Peace Trip Package”to our July 4, 2017 Peace Gathering in Mattie’s Park. This package is being put together — but will likely include —
- A two-night stay for the winner in a hotel near Mattie’s Park
- A “picnic type gathering” in Mattie’s Park
- Conversations with members of the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation — including “Mama Peace” (Jeni Stepanek) and representatives from our Board of Directors
- A personalized gift brick in Mattie’s Park & Peace Garden
- Recognition during the 2017 Peace Gathering event
- We would LOVE to include airfare if someone is wiling and able to donate travel points.
- Additional prizes — a variety of books, bookmarks, inspiration cards and other “peace stuff” from our Peace Shop.
