Peace News, Peace Trees,
Peace Poetry, Peace Honorees,
& Mattie’s Peace Day…

Free, fun, and for global citizens
of all ages, faiths, and nationalities.

Many people, one mission — > peace.

-
NOTE: Information about the journey to Mattie’s Peace Day
(annual July 17 celebration) is at the bottom of this page.

Each year, Mattie’s Foundation invites global citizens to participate in free, fun, and simple outreach activities. These activities are based on our peace theme for the year. We also reach out and celebrate individuals and organizations who participate in our Foundation activities in an exemplary way through our Spotlight Honoree pages.

-

Our goal in creating these seasonal and annual activities is to encourage global neighbors — around the block and around the world – to talk about peace and to participate in an international activity from wherever they are. These activities and “virtual events” bring together many people, for one mission — peace.

-

Once initiated, each year’s seasonal Outreach Activity
becomes an ongoing, year-round item –
so people are always welcome to participate
at any time, in any year, on any activity.

MATTIE’S PEACE DAY

Reflect, respond, and reach out with peace…
Mattie’s message — our world.

-

Mattie’s Foundation is working towards a national day of peace, to be celebrated each year on Mattie’s birthday — July 17.  An international day of peace is celebrated each year during September, with the goal of ceasing global violence for 24 hours. Our goal is different.

=

Mattie’s Foundation wants to set aside a day during which we pause, and learn about choosing peace as a deliberate attitude and action. We want to share Mattie’s message about how peace begins — within each of us, when our basic needs are met so that we can be okay with who we are as person. When we are okay with who and how we are, it becomes easier to learn about our neighbors — around the block and around the world — and support them in equitable access to basic needs, so that they, too, can be okay with who and how they are as people.

=

Peace is not simply about ceasing violence for a day, but embracing peace as a way of thinking and doing and being each day. It is not about agreeing with or being like others, but about being with and not using violence to express disagreements with others. Shifting attitudes and actions involves dedication, education, and celebration.

-

As we journey towards recognition of Mattie’s Peace Day by our nation’s leasers, Mattie’s Foundation will be celebrating it every year — with information and inspiration, activities and events. We invite you to join the growing number of individuals, families, schools, organizations, neighborhoods, churches, communities, and cities who are joining us in this effort — and declaring July 17 “Mattie’s Peace Day” at local levels.
