“Mama Peace” Earns “My Hero” Recognition

2016 My Hero Humanitarian Award during
12th Annual International Film Festival

The My Hero International Film Festival brings together media makers of all ages to celebrate the best of humanity. The event provides and opportunity for honorees and attendees to meet and interact with inspiring filmmakers and heroes who are changing our world.

During the 12th Annual Multiemedia Awards Ceremony on November 19th, Jeni Stepanek, PhD, will be honored with the 2016 Humanitarian Award. According to Jeanne Meyers, Founder of the My Hero Project, ” Jeni was selected for her work as a mother, an author, and an advocate for peace. ”

“By mentoring youth and adults who are committed to peace, Jeni has earned the nickname ‘Mama Peace’ from leaders around the world,” Meyers said. “Her commitment to global peace has taken many forms. Most recently she has been teaching peace workshops at John Hopkins University.”

Stepanek has a Ph.D. and M.Ed. in Early Childhood Special Education, and is a NY Times Bestselling author for her book Messenger: The Legacy of Mattie J.T. Stepanek and Heartsongs.

My Hero is a freely accessible, not-for-profit organization located in California, but with an international reach. The organization’s mission is to use media, art, and technology to celebrate the best of humanity and to empower people of all ages to realize their own potential to effect positive change in the world.

Global citizens of of all ages are encouraged to share stories, art, and short films through the organization’s award-winning multimedia journal and digital library.

In 1997, when he was only 6 years old, Mattie J.T. Stepanek was honored by My Hero as a “Poet Hero.” Throughout his life, My Hero provided Mattie a global platform for sharing his inspirational messages of Heartsongs and purpose, and hope and peace.

Since Mattie’s death in 2004, Jeanne Meyers and My Hero have continued to support Mattie’s peace mission through collaboration with the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation.

At My Hero, we love her, and appreciate all she has done to build bridges of understanding to people around the world, especially young people. It is an honor to be able to shine a light on her with this award.”

The 12th International Film Festival will be held at the New Roads School Moss Theater in Santa Monica, California, on Saturday, November 19 from 4 to 10 pm (Awards Ceremony begins at 7:30 pm).
