Why Peace Certification Matters

-

Peace Certification by the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation makes a statement about your choices for peace as an individual or group.

-

Your participation and peace journey shows that you want to explore peace, and be an agent of lasting and good change for our world. Peace Certification helps you move from “attitude to action” in peace for one’s self, for groups, and for diverse communities of all sizes.

 -

Who can become Peace Certified

=

  • Individuals, Families, and Small Book Groups — parents and family members, educators, politicians, community and business leaders, clergy, school staff members, healthcare and childcare providers, and more…
  • Groups and Communities of all sizes – classrooms, schools, youth groups, scout groups, retirement groups, social clubs, businesses, non-profits, neighborhoods, cities, and more…

-

How does an individual or group become Peace Certified?

Once registered or sponsored for Peace Certification, participants begin a personal or community journey through Mattie’s “Three Choices for Peace” concept:

REFLECT: You choose to be a Peace Seeker.

We share materials and strategies (including our Peace Tips Guide) that support you in exploring Mattie’s message of Heartsongs, hope, choice, service, kindness, or other Pathways to Peace elements. You reflect on one or more poems or books, so that you better understand what it means to “want peace” for oneself and for one’s world.

 -

RESPOND: You choose to be a Peace Maker

You consider and practice aspects of the peace message through your words, actions, and choices, and as you create your own Peace Plan (a Lesson, Activity, Attitude, or Action Plan that impacts one person or countless others). Your Peace Plan can be as simple as a family peace meal, a Kindness Corner at school, or a peace bulletin board at work, or as large as a community service project, a fundraiser, or tending to some basic need of global citizens in another country — you choose and create your project based on your personal or community preferences. This choice helps you understand what it means to “live peace” within, and with others.

 -

REACH OUT: You choose to be a Peace Bringer

Together, we show others your commitment to peace as you carry out your Peace Plan. We celebrate your choices and your completed Peace Plan on our website Peace Certification page. This choice includes a “What Next?” statement on moving forthward with peace beyond Certification, which is what it means to “share and be peace.”

Peace Activity Certificate (FREE)
— for individuals, families, leaders, teachers,
—– schools, clubs & community groups:

  • We have added a Peace Activity Certificate to our Peace Certification journey.
  • There is no cost to the participant(s) for this recognition.
  • It is much like the paid/sponsored Peace Certification journey in that recipients participate in some type of lesson plan or peace activity rooted in Mattie’s peace message (a quote, a poem, or a book).
  • This free level encourages people to move from attitude to action with peace and to have their activity recognized on our website, and also earn a certificate for their peace activity.
  • The activity can be an original activity, an adaptation of someone else’s activity, or group participation in an outreach activity sponsored by Mattie’s Foundation (e.g., Mattie’s Peace Tree, Make Peace the News, For Our World Campaign, December Prayer Project, What Next? Project, etc…).
  • Families, teachers, and businesses can even retroactively share a lesson plan or activity completed anytime during the previous 12 months.
  • However, as it is free, participants do not receive our Peace Tips Guide or the same level of personalized support through Mattie’s peace choices as Peace Certification participants.
  • Instead, they can download our  brief Peace Activity Certificate Tool (click here…) which is a suggested template for planning and sharing about the activity/lesson.
  • Like Peace Certification participants, those seeking an activity certificate follow this journey (through an original or adapted activity, or through an outreach activity sponsored by Mattie’s Foundation):
      • Reflect — on any quote, poem, or book by Mattie, which will then become a part of your activity or lesson plan.
      • Respond – in some way to the message, through any creative, recreational, or educational activity or lesson plan for any class subject or community event.
      • Reach Out – so that the message of peace through your activity or lesson plan impacts someone else — one other person, family, or classroom, or countless others around the world.
  • Then, share what you did and how and why information with us — and we will celebrate you on our website and send your certificate. Just complete the brief Peace Activity Certificate Tool (will be posted SOON).
  • Send it to us along with any photos, social media links, or other information you would like to share.
  • Individuals and groups can earn more than one certificate, as they repeat, refine, or create new activities.

Summary — there are TWO WAYS TO EARN A PAC —>

1) Plan a peace activity or lesson (see the Reflect-Respond-ReachOut guide above), and use our brief Peace Activity Certificate Tool (click here…) to share information with us. Send the PAC Tool to us along with any photos, social media links, or other information you would like posted. We will send  you your certificate and celebrate you on our website! Please note that the PAC Tool is a template guide to support your peace activity — you are welcome to modify it in any way that works best for you.
——-…OR…
2) Participate as a group (family, class, school, business, community) in any of the free outreach activities sponsored by Mattie’s Foundation and share information (message, photos, sample materials) with us. We encourage you to use the PAC Tool for sharing information about your activity, though it is not required if your are participating in a Foundation outreach activity.
