Our Collaborator — My Hero
The mission of The MY HERO Project is to use media and technology to celebrate the best of humanity and to empower young people to realize their own potential to effect positive change in the world. Their freely accessible, not-for-profit project is supported by visitors of all ages who share stories, art, and short films on their award-winning multimedia journal and digital library. Teachers use My Hero programs in schools, libraries, after-school workshops, and in community and media centers around the world.
In 1997, MY HERO learned about Mattie through his work with Children’s Hospice International. Co-Founder and Director Jeanne Meyers was inspired by Mattie’s Heartsongs poetry, by his vision of a peaceful world, and by his efforts to improve the world through his advocacy work and public speaking on behalf of disability- and peace-related organizations. To support Mattie’s efforts, My Hero provided Mattie with access to the internet and e-mail, and they set up a MY HERO Mattie guestbook and pages and on their website.
Now, MY HERO remains committed to supporting Mattie’s legacy by partnering with the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation. They provide information about our Foundation and our gift brick program on their website and on the pages that feature either Mattie or his mom, Jeni. They continue to invite visitors to sign Mattie’s guestbook, and to share their inspirational stories about how Mattie has touched their lives and spirits.
According to Jeanne, “We are thrilled to see all Mattie’s Foundation is accomplishing, and we are pleased to partner with your organization. Mattie’s vision of a better world lives on through the work of Jeni Stepanek and Mattie’s Foundation. This work makes peace possible, and I am grateful for you efforts to bring peace to the planet!”
