Christopher N. Dobbins
Christopher Dobbins has worked for financial institutions since 2002, and in managerial positions since 2006. In 2013, Chris began sharing his talents as a manager with the Arlington Community Federal Credit Union. Across the years he has participated in many team projects, and has earned numerous awards for exemplifying core values, for innovative thinking, and for creative design.
As Mattie’s kin-brother, Chris knew Mattie from the day he was born. Chris introduced Mattie to his first Legos in 1990, and throughout the years kept Mattie anchored in the best music, cartoons, and video games.
In 2002, Chris and Mattie (along with their moms, Sandy and Jeni) enjoined an “ultimate road trip” experience — they traveled by van from Maryland to California and back, when Mattie was serving as National Goodwill Ambassador for MDA and delivering speeches on peace to various audiences. They enjoyed everything from the Grand Canyon and Disneyland to meeting the stars and families during the National MDA Labor Day Telethon.
Also in 2002, Mattie proudly served as Best Man during Chris’ wedding, and the following year cherished holding Chris’ firstborn child in his arms.
Chris strongly believes in Mattie’s message of hope and peace, and says that supporting the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation is a way of both reflecting on the message and continuing the lessons and values he learned from their many years of friendship.
Chris has been active in fundraising and program activities related to the Foundation since it was founded in 2005. Across the years, he has secured thousands of dollars in sponsorships for Mattie’s Heartsong Swim and for the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park Dedication events, and he has enjoyed hosting recreational activities in the park as well. In 2010, Chris joined the Foundation Board of Directors, and was soon after elected to serve as Vice President, a role he filled until 2013. During 2015, Chris rejoined the Board of Directors and was elected to serve as Treasurer.
In addition to his professional work, Chris is an accomplished artist, and the creator of Mattie’s “Just Peace” icon that now serves as the Foundation’s logo. He lives in Rockville, Maryland with his wife, Cynthia (who also serves as a Foundation Director), and their daughters, Kaylee and Leah (who are both members of our Peace Club Youth program). The entire family enjoys visiting Mattie’s Park, and volunteering for Mattie’s Foundation.
