Watching a Larry King Live show is how Laura was first introduced to Mattie. She remembers being “intrigued and started learning more about Mattie, watching numerous television shows that he was appearing on, and purchasing and reading his Heartsongs poetry books. Working for the Rosalynn Carter Institute, Laura said she was happy to watch Mattie meet his hero, Former President Jimmy Carter.

During July, 2003, Laura worked personally with Mattie when he served as a co-chair of an expert panel on Intergenerational Caregiving with Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter for RCI. A decade later, Laura brought her passion for spreading Mattie’s message of hope and peace to the world to Mattie’s Foundation. Combined with her experience in grant writing and non-profit management, her goal is to ensure the sustainability of the current projects of Mattie’s Foundation, as well as bring in additional funds for future programming efforts. After three years of Board service, Laura was elected to serve as Vice President of Mattie’s Foundation during 2014.

An advocate for social justice, the environment, caregiving issues, and peace; Laura enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, photography, bird-watching, dancing, and music of all genres. She and her dog Katie are a certified Pet Partner animal therapy team; regularly volunteering their services at local elementary schools, hospices, hospitals and nursing homes.
